About the Project

The Beginnings of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Classics Department: An Inquiry into Influence is a student research project designed and carried out under an Undergraduate Creative Activity and Research grant. All the materials were gathered in the University Archives during the 2014-2015 school year.  This Omeka site serves as the project’s final presentation and is accessible within Nebraska U: A Collaborative History.

About the Author

Kourtney Meysenburg created this project while a senior undergraduate pursuing two Bachelor of Arts degrees, one in Classics and one in English, at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Her academic interests include studying the ancient societies of Greece and Rome, the digital humanities, and school librarianship. Prior to participating in UCARE, she interned at the Center for Digital Research in the Humanities, encoding images in TEI and VRA and transcribing newspapers for Civil War Washington.

About the Advisors

Mary Ellen Ducey is the Archives and Special Collection Libarian at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Love Library, and is the primary advisor on this project.  During the creation of the Omeka site, she gave advice on citations and presenatation of archival materials.  During the final editing process, she checked for historical accuracy and made sure the materials used where allowed to be publically viewed under copyright law.

Elizabeth Lorang is a Research Assistant Professor at the Center for Digital Research in the Humanities, and is a secondary advisor for this project.  Her advise on website rhetoric and navigation helped lead the Omeka site to be ready for public viewing.

Josh Caster is student manager for Archives & Special Collections. Any immediate questions about archive materials or Omeka usage were answered by Josh.
