THE INDUSTRIAL COLLEGE
The Regents again present the claims of the Industrial College, which were urged at length in the last biennial report, and trust the time has arrived when the State can render such aid as will enable the Regents to furnish the facilities necessary to a compliance with the requirements of the act of Congress, granting the lands for the endowment and support of this College.
In view of the probably legislation by Congress, looking to a more general education of the masses of the people, the Regents need merely suggest to your Excellency the propriety of advancing the interest of this College, which has already cost the State a considerable amount of money, and by a liberal grant of lands from the general government will soon become self-supporting.
Nothing has been done to facilitate the study of the mechanic arts, and but little progress has been made in the school of agriculture, owing chiefly to a lack of means.
