Literary Societies in the Nineteenth Century Project Editor: Anastasia Smallcomb, UCARE, 2007 The goal of this project is to display content found in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Archives and Special Collections and to compare the literary societies at UNL (the Palladian, University Union, and Delian Literary Societies) to other literary societies during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries in the United States. The research topics that have been focused on include an overview of literary societies in the overall United States, the history of the societies found at UNL, the different classes they held and their general importance to universities, the roles of women within literary societies, and the different relationships literary societies had with other student organizations: first with other literary societies, then later with fraternities.
