Dear Shoemaker,
I should have sent this list long ago but Swenk had
it and asked me to leave it till he could make a copy - he has not
yet done so. But I notice a number of ommissions - where were Swenk,
Jont and miss Caldwell, whose names have been added, and where are
Wallace, Dickinson, Jones, whom I know consider themselves still mem-
bers. Dr. Everett asked me less than a week ago why he didn't ge a notice
of the meeting and why he hadn't had anything from the union. That
is one of Swenk's weaknesses as secretary ~ a member doesn't answer
a circular letter ~ "let 'em go." I spent a good deal of time on writing
personal notes and seeing local members personally ~ and held the
members, which have recently been dropping away.
At the meeting the principal actions were decided on a quarterly
journal ~ "The Kite" ~ first member to appear in April, and be as large
as the funds will allow. Swenk, editor, Brone and advisory com-
mittee. A school committee we created with Jont chairmans.
Towne is president, (Jan. 18)
Mr Pagne vice-president, yourself reassure,
miss Jan Sant corresponding secretary, and executere comittee
-Jont, Lowry, and Barlow.
I began this letter, as you see nearly a week ago, and was interrupt-
ed. That same evening Emily was taken sick, entailing a trip for the
doctor on my boat at 2 AM. She developed a slum emplion, a head cold,
acute indigestion and a double tooth "contemporaneosly, as it were,"
and was a mighty miserable bit of humanity till yesterday. Allen
thought he was being neglected so he produced an attack of tonsilitis,
Mrs. Wolcott had no girl so you can imagine I haven't had any
spare moments, with my duties as cook and nurse and general
housemaid, since the date at the head of this letter.
Naturally, I haven't much to chronicle. Haven't sent Blaisdell's sliff
either. Will try to get the box in shape next Sunday.
But I have a scheme to communicate. At Washington they are using
