Dear Shoemaker,
Your prize package which came yesterday afternoon
was a source of delight for many reasons.
First because you were so kind as to count me among your 77
chosen (!) friends, and to favor me with such a very neat and attractive
(for the most part) little note. Will cash in when you come down -
that by way of a slight additional safeguard.
In the second place I was overjoyed at the combing you gave that
nefarious scoundrel named Trotter - I'll bet he batted his eyes
some when his optics rested on that roast - perhaps he'll treat the
next "taggers" that come his way with some slight degree of respect.
At 'im agin! But after all maybe he can be educated -
I always thought Trotter had his good points and perhaps one
more effort should be made to save him and bring him into the
light - that sounds right, doesn't it?
Third, if you should find it convenient to drop down on us
Saturday, Dec. 23d, we would try and make the best - excuse me,
I meant most - of it. "Taggers"! Labels! Eleodes! Walther Horn's list!
What a menu! And only a day and a half! When I told Mrs. Wolcott
you were coming she said "Of course you wrote him we'll be very
glad to have him - I always enjoy his coming myself, even if you
do spend most of the time on your old bugs!" Just think of that - old
bugs! I told her she ought to be ashamed of herself - living in the enlightened atmosphere she does.
"Blaisdell - Eleodes - ?" Thursday - friends - dinner - foot-ball - generous supper - banquet - home 2 a.m. Friday - job - storm windows -
&- hammer - &- screw-driver - &- tools generally - same job over
again - what do I want of dinner! - sleep - ah! Saturday - need recreation -
five rabbits - telephone, University - two committees, three
students, all afternoon gone. Sunday - day of rest, anyway. Monday -
here I am again! With regards to all -
Yours very sincerely,
Robt. H. Wolcott.
