ferent effort to approximate these
to the stage of the narrative, they
are placed without attempt at
classification, and reflect faith-
fully the degree of freedom which
I feel in the preparation of this
vonderous document. Many of the
photographs were taken on account
of their ecological significance,

thers were taken, on the other hand,
simply because their lines please

The convenience and availability of the E:
kodek will lead even a confirmed pvlate-
user to give the lighter instrument the
preference very often. - I carried two
eameras. One was a 5 x 7 long focus
box fitted with Goerz double-anastignat
lens, Ser. III, ?-in. focus, with B.& L.
shutter. The other wes a folding pocket
kodak, taking pictures 3- 1/4 x 4- 1/4. an
Plates used were almost exclusively Cramer )Siae
Iso. Inst.; films were Fastman N.C. The §&
customary aids to photography, e.g-, film
and plate tanks, ray filters, exposure
meter (Watkins'), were used. Autochrome
plates for color photography were taken
along, but I had no scales for compounding
the developer - my other developers being
ready mixed and not requiring weighing; so
I exposed no autochromes.
