Aug. 18, 1915. Dr. Bernardo J. Crespo, Chief of Veterinary Service, Department of Agriculture, Havannah, Cuba. Dear Sir: Your letter of July 26th, addressed to Director E. A. Burnett of the Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station, has been duly received and referred to me for reply. I note what you say concerning your studies on the economic relations of the turkey buzzard in the Republic of Cuba, and your request for information as to how this bird is regarded in other regions. I believe I can summarize our attitude towards this bird as follows: The turkey buzzard (Cathartes aura) is not plentiful in Nebraska and is quite local in its distribution. In reply to your questions I would say: 1. Altho we have no definite proof of the matter I believe that the turkey buzzard is capable of transmitting hog cholera from farm to farm under favorable conditions. 2. The Nebraska law neither condemns or protects the turkey vulture, not
