The Memorial Fountain is located on the recently-completed Memorial Plaza. It represents another step in implementing an overall plan to develop an attractive and functional campus.
This fountain measures 48 feet in diameter with a perimeter seating area of pre-cast concrete panels. The main core f the fountain is designed to produce a cone of water 20 feet high and 12 feet in diameter. In addition, there are 12 small water jets which can be adjusted to produce a variety of shapes. A special control system will change the height of the cones of water in relation to wind velocity.
Underwater lights are installed in the base of the fountain to provide several colors including brilliant white. Through combination's of the primary colors, various colors can be produced in the fountain.
It is hoped that the fountain will serve as a focal point for the Memorial Plaza. In a larger sense, the Memorial Plaza is designed as an outdoor extension of the Nebraska Union for organized and informal student activities.
