SAIGON,
AUGUST 24-Prohayward or Projohansson. Thanks for the news of John and Bob. We are not cabling today. The first of next week, I'll try to get a military story off to you wrapping up Communist activity since August 18, showing any patterns and trying to interprete it. But, I must wait for some briefings before doing this, Also, we are working on a piece about the Vietnamese government peace program and we'll weave in the few relevant comments made by President Thieu last night. By itself, his speech was not too illuminating on this. Next week, I'll also attempt to give you Vietnamese nationalist reaction to the Democratic convention--although I'll probably skip this if there are major news developments here. Hopefully, at the end of the week, I'll drive to Bien Hoa for a military-political appraisal of the situation in the corps area outside of Saigon, but no date for this has yet been set. So, despite the Czecks and Demos, I hope to be able to give you next week some newsworthy copy from here too. Regards Bev.
