Original caption: "Hot Lead and Flying Glass - Cpt. Ralph C. Kuhnert of Rochester, N.Y., a member of the 71st Assault Helicopter company, is awarded the Purple heart by his commanding officer, Major Arnold C. Morris of Bronson, Texas, at Bien Hoa Air Base. Cpt. Kuhnert's flack west and chest protector stopped the enemy bullet after it crashed through his Huey's instrument panel. He was cut above the eye slightly and on the leg by flying shrapnel." A US soldier receives a medal from another soldier. His eye is bandaged.
