''SEABEE TEAMSr IN VIETNAM GET NEW LEADER
Lieutenant Commander A.S. Poole CEC, USN, is now Officer in Charge
of the Navy's Construction Battalion Pacific Detachment, at Saigon,
South Vietnam.
Lieutenant Commander Poole, of Roanoke, Va., will be charged with
administering and coordinating the operations of the eight Seabee
Teams presently deployed in .Vietnam.
These teams, composed of 13 volunteers (one officer, 11 constructionmen and a hospital corpsman) are hand-picked from the Navy's Mobile
Construction Battalions.
They are sponsored by the U.S. Agency for International Development
and are de~igaed to help the Vietnamese by building and teaching more
effective methods of construction, sanitation and health care.
1967 marks the 25th anniversary of the U.S. Navy Seabees; the 100th
of the Navy Civil Engineer Corps whose officers lead the Seabees in action;
and the 125th of the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (formerly
Bureau of Yards and Docks).
