FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
'SEABEE TEAMS IN VIETNAM GET NEW LEADER
Release No. 36-67 (45)
Lieutenant Commander A.S. Poole CEC, USN, is now Officer in Charge of the Navy's Construction Battalion Pacific Detachment, at Saigon, South Vietnam.
Lieutenant Commander Poole, of Roanoke, Va., will be charged with administering and coordinating the operations of the eight Seabee Teams presently deployed in Vietnam.
These teams, composed of 13 volunteers (one officer, 11 construction men and a hospital corpsman) are hand-picked from the Navy's Mobile Construction Battalions.
They are sponsored by the U.S. Agency for International Development and are designed to help the Vietnamese by building and teaching more effective methods of construction, sanitation and health care.
1967 marks the 25th anniversary of the U.S. Navy Seabees; the 100th of the Navy Civil Engineer Corps whose officers lead the Seabees in action; and the 125th of the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (formerly Bureau of Yards and Docks).
