More foreign newsmen
SAIGON, VIETNAM.

elections for constitutional-drafting assembly than any other single event

"We accredited 160 correspondents during the five days before the
election," one tired sergeant in the American military information office
explained. "We had French, Indian, Tunisian, Australian, Algerian as well
as Americans come flood in here. Believe me, the press corps is really
growing. I remember when I arrived here in October, 1965, there were 2269
correspondents accredited here."
Another sergeant chimed ins
"It was a small United Nations around
here xxx during the election period."
As of September 9, 1966, a breakdown of correspondents accredited
to the American military command were:
United States citizens
Non-U. S. citizens
