contests have changes their name to the "Skiles and Williams Contests," but the excellency of the olden-time is still preserved.

While we hold our literary work our highest and most important aim, yet we have also found that the social side of our society is equally beneficial. This opportunity of meeting and learning to know one another we now hold to be no small part of the benefits we receive. We realize the binding force of these friendship ties even while yet in school, as year by year some of our fellow Palladians leave us. So we gladly lay aside the trying grind of school life, allow laughter and good cheer to reign. At Thanksgiving time, and on the occasions of other feeds and surprises, the old "Pall rag" still graces the floor. The picnics and parties all come as a glad relief to us, furnishing the healthful recreation in the midst of our work.

PALLADIAN BOYS' DEBATING CLUB.

The Palladian Boys' Debating Club was organized during the winter of 1895. E. F. Piper, G. E. Kindler, Pierson brothers, J. S. Smoyer, J. R. Burleigh, W. J. Hunting, R. S. Hunt, and Turner and Hansen of football fame were among its charter members.

By 1897 it had sixty members and since then its membership has steadily increased.

It was during the year 1897 that the celebrated mock national convention occurred in the university. The Palladian Club attended as a unit and was able to elect its president, G. E. Kindler, as chairman of the convention. In the discussions which took place the P.B.D.C. demonstrated that those who are destined to lead and control are not those who shout the loudest, but those who have a clear conception of the rules governing parliamentary bodies, and those who art self-possessed, clear, logical thinkers, and today it is an acknowledged fact that it does provide
