them. The following was chosen and has remained with us through all these years, "Forma Mentis Aeterna Est." In 1873, part of the members, owing to some misunderstanding, withdrew and formed the Adelphian Society. But with the grit which has characterized the Palladian Society throughtout its thirty years of glorious life, it found that by admitting ladies within its bounds it might become a pride to the institution, which it has ever striven to be. In 1880 the present hall was fitted up, and here we will take a leap in this brief history to a sketch of the last four years.

The Palladians have followed the lines laid out by the founders of the society during this time, with a degree of success which has been a cause for much self-congratulation to its members. Our activity has been many sided. We have finally laid the old well-worn carpet away to rest, but its many memories still remain. And in its place we have put another, which we have consecrated by all the various rites which go to make the hall a place always to be remembered by Palladians. We also have reconstructed our stage so that it is possible, with electric footlights and sidelights, to present the most varied programs. New paper and frescoes now conceal the marks of other years, and new curtains have replaced the old over the doors and windows, while a cosy window-seat adds its attraction to our already conscious welcome. We may now claim, without fear of contradiction, to have the most cheery and homelike place of retreat on the campus. We have also in our literary work endeavoured to keep up the high standard which our predecessors left us. This we, as of old, consider our important work. Our programs have been varied. The usual ones are of solid worth and interest. The individual productions have shown very gratifying preparation on the part of the participants. The special programs have always been a surprise, and suggest an ingenuity of plan and detail that shows the result of the training we receive here. Our oratorical
