At left and far right: 1976-ish: Jody Shields, Doug Stanely and KB did a road trip to small towns in southern Nebraska and northern Kansas. - Photo at left by KB, at right by Doug Stanley

1973, spring, Rosemary Kucbn and KB in a styrofoam kayak that I made. I dont remember exactly why I did this. Id seen a plan and wanted a small boat. I made it in the basement of the house where Lorraine and I lived at 1637 G St. in Lincoln, NE. Styrofoam fluff was everywhere. This photo is at Holmes Lake in Lincoln. I think it might have been the celebration of Dwayne Criggers job to teach in college, and the kayak launching piggy-backed onto that party. The party was at Shelley Thorntons house. - Photo by Jody Shields

Dwayne Crigger, a grad student in the UNL art department, told me repeatedly that I must meet Jody Shields, a gifted student of his in another class. Crigger introduced us and Jody and I have been friends since 1970 or 1971.
