PANNA NATIONAL PARK

GRASSLAND GIANT Gaur Bos gaurus

Panna National Park is located in the Vindhyan range, among an undulating terrain of terraces and gorges. The hills are covered in Sal forest, with exposed boulders on rocky ridges. The beautiful Ken River (so named because the British could apparently not pronounce "Karnawati"!) meanders for some 55Km through Panna before joining the Yamuna. Panna National Park was established in 1981. It covers some 545Km² but only part of this is open to tourism.
