Bontecou's work is deeply affected by WWII. Both her arents joined the war effort. Her mother wired trans itters for submarine navigation and her father sold liders for the military. Growing up, she would spend ummers with her grandmother in Yarmouth, Nova cotia, where she developed a love in the natural orld
