RITUALS FOR MAHAKALA (MAHAKALA PUJA)
Mahakala is a powerful, wrathful Buddhist protector deity who removes obstacles, both internal and external. In the Mahakala Puja the deity is propitiated and the accompanying music aligns with his character, as the music is an offering that should be pleasing to the deity. The recording heard here has a fierce quality, featuring a rapid tempo and multilayered rhythms of drums and cymbals amid blaring horns and dynamic vocal chants.

MILAREPA (1040-1123)
This exquisite sculpure depicts the eleventh-century poet and saint Milarepa listening attentively while singing. From an early age he was known for his beautiful voice, and later in life, as a guru, he would sing spontaneously composed songs (gur) to pass on Buddhist teachings to his disciples. To this day his songs remain among the mose famous gur in Tibetan Buddhism. The composer Éliane Radigue, whose collaboration with Laetita Sonami and Bob Bielecki Le Corps Sonore emanates from the ceiling and staircase, composed several pieces devoted to him, including the album Songs of Milarepa.
