Flowers were everywhere.
It does seem to be a miracle that from the bones of tiny organisms deposited millions of years ago on the
floor of an ancient sea, there should now arise with the sun a little flower. I know that a hand glass will
reveal the tiny fissures into which soil and water find a way, that a seed happening to lodge in them
swells, bursts, and puts out a web of hairy roots, but for all the factual explanations I prefer still to
regard this particular germination, growth, and florescence as magic, pure magic, and nothing else.
